In this workshop, we will explore bias from multiple angles, considering it both as an individual issue encompassing psychological and cognitive aspects, and as a systemic problem where processes can be influenced negatively. Within academia, the acts of selecting and evaluating individuals are routine practices and integral components of career progressions and student assessments. Recently, an increasing body of evidence, research, and studies highlight that our preexisting notions, or biases, pose significant barriers to achieving a fair and impartial process. A crucial focus of this workshop will be presenting practical examples and strategies to mitigate bias, drawing from valuable insights and best practices found in European networks such as LERU. We'll also engage in discussions about potential impactful interventions within your specific network.
