VdZ is a research institution employing about 200 employees working on industrial cement production with focus on cement chemistry. The production of calcium silicates being responsible for the strength of the concrete after reaction with water have priority. Besides issues in materials science the research institutes also deals with the topics of energy efficiency in high temperature processes and issues concerning industrial environment protection.
