RESEARCH DATA MANAGEMENT Tools
Data Management Plans (RDMO)
To assist your data management and the creation of data management plans as well as text blocks for funding proposals the Research Data Management Organiser (RDMO) is available to you. With structured questionnaires all relevant questions regarding data management are being collected and documented by this web tool. Login to the service is easily possible with your ORCiD.
RDMO Supports
- to consider all relevant aspects of data retention and documentation in before (e.g., responsibilities, requirements in regard to data retention, data documentation and archiving).
- the data management inside teams and projects and to record agreements.
- the creation of data management plans and text blocks for your funding proposals.
- versioned data management plans via snapshot functionality for your funding agency.
A comprehensive introduction to RDMO has been compiled by the Research Data Service of Ruhr University Bochum:
Version Control (Gitlab)
The software GitLab is well-suited to keep an overview over the different stages of editing concerning research data as well as code and scripts. By versioning, you can access and utilize all steps in a project and are able to collaboratively develop documents, analyses, software and much more.
GitLab CAN
- protocol every change to the versioned files and make their modification easily comprehensible.
- search the complete history of modifications and restore any previous state of your data.
- be especially suited for working with text files. However, in general any file format is compatible.
UA Ruhr GitLab InstanCES
Every UA Ruhr university hosts a central GitLab instance. They provide this service to all employed staff as well as students. External collaborators can easily create accounts and be invited to collaboratively participate in projects. The Research Data Services of the respective universities will gladly assist you with any questions regarding the use of their GitLab instances.
Research Data Repository RESOLVdata
The research data repository RESOLVdata hosted by TU Dortmund University allows cluster members to securely save their research data, archive, and publish them.
Resolvdata
- assigns a persistent identifier to all datasets.
- enhances your dataset by allowing to add rich metadata.
- makes published datasets available under Open Access conditions.
For in-depth questions please see the FAQ page on how to use RESOLVdata or the corresponding data publication.
Cloud Services (Sciebo, B2Drop)
The cloud service Sciebo is provided for free for all researchers in NRW.
Sciebo grants
- 30 GB of storage for sharing files and collaboratively working on documents.
- guest accounts for researchers who are not members of NRW universities upon request.
- project boxes with up to 2 TB of storage space for larger projects upon request.
When collaborating with many participants outside of NRW the free cloud service B2DROP can be used for secure sharing of research data. All UA Ruhr members can use the service with their institutional accounts.
