As part of the celebration of International Science Day 2023, Friday 10th of November, RESOLV organized an event for industrial companies, start-ups and scientists to meet and share knowledge and experiences. Companies need employees who bring new ideas to the table for innovative projects. Finding new ideas is a core competence of scientists. Various methods of connecting industry professionals and scientists were deliberated during the event. By working together, companies can improve their products and create a better environment for people.
Eight professionals from various industries were invited to talk about their projects and their company's relation to science and scientists. Representatives from ATLANTA AG, Bals & Vogel Patent Attorneys, BASF SE, Bayer AG, Carl Zeiss SMT GmbH, Henkel AG & Co. KGaA, INVITE GmbH, FACCTs GmbH and thyssenkrupp were present. Everyone agreed that having scientists in the team is a massive asset to the company. Apart from the possibility of applying to a company, being accepted and then working there as an employee, there are other ways of making your research applicable. Dr. Celia Millon presented her path: Together with a colleague, she has founded a start-up to turn her research into application for the industry. Dr. Fabio Novelli presented his research, which made him a finalist at the Falling Walls Science Breakthroughs 2023.
The event's highlight was the open discussion round between the participants and the professionals. During the discussion, the emphasis fell on the crucial role of effective communication between scientists and industry professionals. Bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application often requires clear and concise communication. The industry representatives stressed the importance of establishing a common language between scientists and industry experts. All shared the optimistic outlook: cooperation offers the opportunity to solve the multidimensional problems of our world.
