Biofuel cells could be used to generate electrical energy without the need for expensive catalysts. One challenge here is to couple biomolecules with artificial components in such a way that electricity can flow as efficiently as possible.
At RUB, the team led by RESOLV PI Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schuhmann from the Center for Electrochemistry is investigating how this can be achieved. Together with colleagues from Hebrew University in Jerusalem, the researchers describe a new concept for a light-driven biofuel cell in the journal “Nature Energy”.
