In 2015 the New Year Reception of RESOLV took place on the 21st of January in RUB Beckmanns Hof. The event started in the afternoon with a welcome reception and welcoming words by Elmar Weiler, president of the Ruhr-University. This year we appreciated to welcome Dr. Klaus Engel, chairman of the Executive Board of Evonik Industries, at our New Year’s Reception. Klaus Engel addressed some introductory words to the audience and emphasized the importance of a close collaboration with the industry for RESOLV.
In addition, RESOLV celebrated the foundation of its sister institute CALSOLV (California explores Solvation) at the University of California in Berkeley, USA. On this occasion Evan Williams from CALSOLV presented the new institute and invited the PhD students from RESOLV to visit CALSOLV for their 3-months internship.
At the University of California in Berkeley, USA, the research groups of Martin Head-Gordon, Teresa Head-Gordon, Daniel Neumark and Evan Williams are part of CALSOLV with the director Rich Saykally. Every CALSOLV research group will carry out collaborative research projects with RESOLV where the PhD students working on the project will spend a research internship of 2-3 month in Germany at RESOLV.
The New Year’s Reception finished with a get-together with coffee and cakes where the particpants of RESOLV and their guests continued networking and discussions.
