The first GSS Summer School took place from June 10th to 13th 2014 in the RUB Conference Centre. The Summer School started on Tuesday and Wednesday morning with lectures from international speakers in the area of Solvation Science. In the afternoons the participations could choose two of three introductory courses each giving insight to either Research Area A, B or C. Due to a hurricane on Monday night the arrival on Tuesday was quite challenging for some of the speakers and participants. Nevertheless more than 50 GSS students and 8 external PhDs participated in the Summer School and all speakers got safely to the RUB Conference Centre. During the poster session on Wednesday evening the atmosphere was lighthearted again and the trouble over the storm was already forgotten. With wine and beer the students enjoyed the dinner and used the chance to talk to each other and to the speakers. On Thursday and Friday the students spread out to different labs at the RUB and RESOLV's other participating institutes to learn new experimental and theoretical techniques within the Advances Modules of the Summer School. The Summer School finished with some closing words from Jun.-Prof. Dr. Tobias Fieback and a BBQ on Friday, where students got the chance to relax.
